Ok, but I'm replacing.

We are a family of vary avid campers, camping 3/4 of the summer, in varying conditions. I have 4 children and a small grandchild. The kids have their own tent, however I always end up with all the extra gear in mine, so I was looking for a large tent to replace my "cabin style" tent I already owned. I thought this tent would be a great choice, after reading many reviews.I love the color, and when I got it set up, loved the color even more. I set it up with help the first few times, but about my 3rd trip out, got it set up by myself in less than 20 minutes, with a hurt shoulder. The color coding system for poles and pole sleeves worked great! Despite claims of water-proofing, I went ahead and gave it a few coats of water-proofing, and sealed the seams. Sure enough, our camping trip got hit with a rainstorm, and tornado warnings. This tent did fantastic! Not a drop of water on the inside, I was HAPPY!Then the warmer summer months hit. We do an annual camping trip each year that consists of camping at a fairground for a week. This tent was SO hot that it was unbearable to sleep in. I ended up sleeping outside several nights. The windows are TINY and offer no real ventilation at all. Even with the rain fly off, there is just no cross ventilation in this tent. I had to go purchase 2 box fans, and I still couldn't handle it. The windows are so high up on the tent that I couldn't place the fans in front of them. The dark color of the tent, the one I loved so much before, was now my worst enemy. It just attracts all the heat from the sun.I hoped that this extreme internal heat was because we had been camping in direct sunlight. However, we continued to camp throughout the summer, and I still got no relief. Even when the temperatures were between 70*-80*, it was still unbearable inside this tent. We live, and camp, in the Midwest, so we aren't talking extreme heat conditions either. I ended up getting some large silver sheets from a local factory, and using them like tarps to reflect the sun from the tent. It didn't help either.In the end, I think the construction and size of this tent are fantastic. If the windows were larger, and lower, I would keep this tent. I may even hold on to it as a spare to use in the spring and fall. But I do NOT recommend this tent for summer camping at all. I wouldn't use it anytime it is forecasted to be over 70*.

Great tent

I bought this tent in early 2010 because I fell in love with it at a sporting goods store.Fortunately, I was able to get it for about $50 or $60. I have been camping with it a few times and it is not the easiest tent to set up, but it is also not the hardest. It is pretty simple, just takes a little bit of time.As for being waterproof, I used it during a storm and water was definitely getting through the sides, but it certainly could have been worse.We were able to fit two air mattresses inside, with room left in the middle for one more person or some of our belongings. We had 5 people in it, with room to spare. It is also very tall which is a plus!I love the hinged door!

Great Tent

Have used this tent through 3 seasons on many trips. Has held up well, no tears or zipper problems. Been through several heavy storms with no leaks. Great looking durable tent that is relatively easy to set up. The hinged doorway is the best part. That alone makes the tent worth it.
