3Hinged D-Door not so great...
By Alleiu11
We just bought the Coleman Hampton Family Cabin today and set it up at home to check it out. My husband is 6'3" so he really prefers a tall tent and we have children so we have always had large "cabin style" tents. We thought we had found a great one, unfortunately, we decided we will return it tomorrow. I will try to explain the reasons why below to best help the next person interested in buying a large and tall family tent. Since we will not be camping in it, my review is based solely on interior/exterior features, design, ease of set up, etc.First I will tell you what type of tent are replacing because this is what I am comparing my new tent to (for better or worse). We had a Columbia Cougar Flats family cabin style tent for 5 years that finally met it's demise. While I LOVED every feature of this tent (gear loft, cup holders, corner shelving, attached zippered room dividers) and exterior durability was great(seams/waterproofness/etc.), the zippers finally failed. So this was and is my only complaint about the Columbia Cougar Flats tent. I'm still not sure if it was a faulty product or that we had little kids ripping in and out of the tent for 5 years on A LOT of camping trips. I might go back and purchase the Cougar Flats II after setting up the Coleman Hampton family cabin this evening. Now to the Coleman Hampton.-Quick Clips versus Continuous Pole SleevesWe set it up tonight and the first thing that I noticed, and was not thrilled about, were the continuous pole sleeves. If you have set up many tents you may have noticed how nice the "quick clips" are for those shock corded poles that tend to pull apart when your setting up or taking down the tent. This tent is almost entirely "sleeved" meaning that only the leg poles had clips. The first set up was as stiff as the poles will ever be and they were already sloppy and coming apart inside the nylon sleeve upon set up and take down. If you've dealt with this you know it's a pain. If not, trust me...it's a PAIN.-D-Door/Hinged Door with velcro and zipperWe were SUPER excited about this feature and hoped it would be the answer to our broken zipper problems due to our children haphazardly ripping and zipping in and out of the tent. I wanted to love it but did not. I'm still bummed about this. Here's why. I put the poles into the "D" frame to frame up the door(easy enough) and then went to close it without zipping to check out the "quick open" feature using the velcro option. This doesn't work because the rain cover piece that runs over the zipper hangs over the velcro so you would have to peel this small long piece back each time, search for the velcro pieces, line them up and stick them together. Then repeat these steps for the bottom of the same door. Then I went to zip the door. Unfortunately once I put the pole into the door frame to make it rigid, it also pulls the fabric on the door around the zipper tight and "ruffles" the zipper. This makes zipping the door TEN TIMES worse that zipping a normal "flappy" tent door. I was most disappointed in this because I REALLY wanted to like it.-InteriorThe interior only includes 2 small hanging pockets (about 6 inches wide by 4 inches deep)like you'd find in a small dome tent. That's it. Seriously, in the entire tent not one more thing. I know I was a little spoiled by my old Columbia Cougar but I thought maybe just 1 hanging gear loft would have been nice. The room divider was also a detachable hanging piece of nylon. This would've been ok and not a deal breaker but the one thing I thought of with this was that we enjoy having 2 rooms. 1 for our kids and 1 for us. In our other tent the floor had a "lip" between the 2 rooms because it was a sewn in zippered wall like 2 exterior doors but on the inside of the ten. Believe it or not, this was awesome for dirt control between our children's side of the tent and ours because the dirt could not get across the barrier on the floor when they continually "forgot" :) to take their shoes upon entering. At least all the dirt stayed on their side of the tent! In the Coleman, it is a hanging nylon piece that stops about 3 inches from the floor so everything could easily go from one side to the other, including crawling children :).-Ease of set upWe found it straight forward and easy to set up. Things seemed sturdy enough so that was a plus.I hope this helps. For a large tent the price is good but I would probably spend a bit more to get a few more features in a large cabin style tent or spend about the same and go with a "modified family dome" style tent.

5Great tent - have had it for years!
By AliciaC
This is a great tent. We have had it for 4+ years and have taken it camping MANY times in summer heat, rain AND snow. It's sturdy and has held up very well. We've only recently had to replace a pole and it was only $8.00 to replace the pole directly through Coleman.I love that tall adults can stand up in it, makes it so much easier to dress! :) The large windows are great also for a good view.We have never had a problem with the poles coming apart in the pole sleeves. If they do, you are probably pulling them too hard. And you know what? They have elastic running down the center to keep it all together. The velcro doors are perfect. If you really think it's too much to move the rainfly, then get over it and try another tent. The door always velcros shut for us.There is no gear holder on the ceiling due to the room divider. But really this tent is so roomy we've never needed one.The room divider is just a piece of nylon hung in the middle of the room. It does not go all the way down or connect to the floor. If you are worried about dirt...why are you camping? If you are worried about your children coming to the other side THAT much, put them in their own tent. Or enjoying being together as a family. We can set it up with just two people, no problem.LOVE LOVE LOVE this tent. We got it for a great price on sale and have never looked back. Get this tent! You won't be sorry!

3Leaks
By lifeinmusic
We purchased this at our coleman store, we love how big the tent is, my husband is 6'3 and has plenty of room to stand up. This thing is real easy to set up but we have a hard time getting everything back into the bag it comes in. We took it camping and there was no rain and we loved it, but the next weekend we set up camp and it started to rain during the night and I woke up to wet pillows, so I thought it was because the pillows pressed up againt the side of the tent, so we moved our bed away from the wall of the tent, so the rain stopped and we had no more dampness, then the next night it started to rain heavier then I woke up with standing water in the tent!! The rain fly doesn't leak but the sides of the tent do, so if rain blows against the tent you get wet :( You also have to remember to step "into" the tent because the bottom of the entrance comes up a good 6 inches, I know because I tripped and fell INTO the tent and luckily fell onto the airbed, even though my family thought it was funny I did not. So if you are elderly or planning on going camping with an elderly person I would consider a different tent because before our camping trip was over me my daughter and husband tripped several times, even though it was a good laugh seeing everyone trip. I can see where it could be dangerous.
